I'm replacing the battery cables on 2 914's. Are they 4ga? Any recommendations for or against cable types? Welding cable, electrical cable, strand count, sheathing minimum's, etc. TIA, Kent

4ga is sufficient for 914 cold cranking draw + some margin.

I really like welding style cable with the fine strands - super flexible. However beware regular welding cable may just be EPDM rubber jacket and not rated for oil / high temp. Long ago I used regular welding cable to relocate battery to the frunk. To be honest it held up fine but didn’t run in the engine compartment.

Crimping lugs properly requires special tool. PITA. Local shops can usually do the crimp for you.

Check around plenty of sources both local and on the web similar to

Note: I haven’t used the linked company above - just for photo reference and SAE specs info

It’s yours if you want it.

Funny that you mention BatteryCablesUSA, @Superhawk996 - I recently ordered the following from them in red at 57" and both connector ends 5/16 inch (M8) (fits my connector setup at the battery)
It's at the shop - I'll see it in a few weeks.

Let me know how they do. I’ve looked at them several times but have not pulled the trigger.

Not as easy for me to find local suppliers now that I’m not in a metro area. Always good to know who the good online suppliers are.

I'm plus 1 with welding cables as well.

Never had a failure and some of mine have been in for 25+ years.

Get the good stuff. As welders use LONG cables it's usually cheaper than automotive grade stuff and has at least double the conductors.

Many thanks from sunny north west France.

Very many thanks, but in Europe they don't use that group style of classification they always use a code but its the actual size I am after.

Any ideas please?
