I’ve tried various cup like tools, but they are either to big or small. Ian karr has one in his video that looked good. Not sure where he got it. What do you guys use?

You have to be careful doing it this way...the first time I tried to remove the filter with various wrenches failed and I tried this...only to fail and have a car with no oil and a stuck filter. I ended up getting one of those removal tools that has a chain and it compressed the busted filter quite a bit. I had to wrap it around as close to where it attached to the engine and cursed up a storm to get it off. Ironically, my daughter did the same thing when she overtightened her filter and she used a screwdriver without talking to me first). In my defense, the prior owner also was unable to remove the filter so it wasn't me that tightened it.

Use K&N filters with a 1" nut welded to the bottom.

This won't help you remove it; this time. Do this and you will never fight one again. Buy a small tube of 100% silicone grease. Found in most hardware and plumbing supply houses. Smear the gasket with a thin layer then screw the filter back on. That's it! An old A&P taught me that several years back. You haven't lived until you try to remove an oil filter from the rear of a Lycoming engine.

Over the years I have used all kinds, but seem to use the strap type the most. I can almost always find a position for access and clearance to swing the handle enough to start the filter turning.
