Just bought a 73 signal orange 914 with a Subaru EG33 with the Kennedy kit to the stock 901. The car runs great except some oil leaks and gets hot after 20 minutes of running down the highway but that's another story. Engine and transaxle seem significantly mismatched to me. The deal includes a total of four engines. The EG33 in it. Another complete EG33 and yet another complete EG33 Cross flow that was completely balanced and gone through for an aircraft application. Lastly a complete EZ30. Also new parts for days including one of Jeff's cradles and a 5 speed Subaru transmission. My logic is to use the crossflow as it's brand new, the sub 5 speed and Jeff's cradle. I have read and spoke to many guys at speciality shops listed as resources here and of course countless posts which by the way I appreciate and respect. The stock 914 axles I believe are going to be fine as this 68 year old guy will not be racing or doing burnouts. Not objecting to sub axles or even empi 930's but I hear it's challenging to get from the sub transmission to the swing arms and all that in-between with all the variables and options.

I have these things labeled in a box with the sub transmission called stubs and another called female - go to late model axles which I believe are on the sub trany side and I think they are two different ways to potentially go. What is the cleanest, most affordable and generally accepted safe way to get power from the sub transmission to the 914 swing arms? BTW..... using four bolt. Cash is a bit tight after the purchase here so that's why I'm asking about what others have done and how it's worked out for them. Car originally was converted years ago in southern California.

BTW the getting hot issue I believe is because it has air pockets but the guy I bought this from this cavitation is the issue and suggests an electric water pump. I'll cross that issue after I get this new power train in.

That looks like an RV-6 sitting in the hanger. Subaru engines are efficient and shouldn't run hot. I'd need to see lots of pic detailing Radiator, it's air inlet & outlet, hose routing, overflow tank, etc. EG33 vs EZ30 pros & cons. They are equally quick. The 33 is heavier and much larger. However it is rebuildable and its timing belt is external and accessible. The EZ series are lighter, newer and smaller. It has a concealed timing chain and will last 200-300k miles if properly maintained. The EZ early series (2000-2003) has single outlet exhaust headers and are easy to make an exhaust system that clears the cradle and 1/2 shafts. The later EZ30 has 3 exhaust ports per head & requires you making a header system which is akin to making a ship in a bottle, if you will. As far as using the Subaru transmission read thru this. http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=201776 or this http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?sho...=346821&hl=
