I know neither a stock late set of heat exchangers or early 1.7 exchangers are ideal, nor will either make a huge difference either way probably. But which would you install if you had a good set of both? Seems to me that as small as the 1.7s are, they’d still equal better flow characteristics than the 75/76 set. Am I wrong?

Am I wrong? you are not wrong. even though on paper, for instance, somehow a 75 1.8 is equal in horsepower to a 74 1.8 the horsepower and torque curve is different. the 75 is basically a log manifold into a single pipe that runs forward and then does a 180 turn back and runs to all the double muffler bs at the back. compare that to a 74 - . (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) i'd do the earlier style heat exchangers. either 1.8 or 1.7. but this is for what size engine that you are talking about? ps - the 75 set up for either 1.8 or 2.0 was a kind of semi thermal reactor made of heavier gauge steel pipe which was intended to burn some unburned hydrocarbons. porsche went in that direction especially so with the 912E and the 911 for USA at that time using thermal reactors rather than cats. i know the 914 had a cat but the intial part of the heat exchangers was still a king of semi thermal reactor as well. |
