Not sure how but I had been using Sta Lube GL4 in my tranny, switched to Sta Lube GL5 this season, what a difference.

Feels more slippery (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

GL4 is great to use . . . If your goal is to destroy your differential.

914’s don’t have a transmission . . . They have a transaxle which contains a differential . . . Which requires GL5.

GL-1

Synchro's work on friction

In the end I guess maybe there is a trade off? Additives that protect the R&P and make stuff more slippery vs what the synchro's like.

The one comment back in the day that got everyone drinking the blue kool aid (sweepco 201) had to do specifically with how long the ring and pinion would last in a racecar. A racecar in where synchros are near irrelevant and putting far more stress on the diff is a lot different than a street driven 914. How often are people wearing out the ring and pinion in 914s?

GL1 is not acceptable for use in a 914 differential
