what is the go-to tape for re-attaching the faceplate after recovering the vinyl?

im looking at this product from 3m...im guessing its best to have a pretty thin tape.

This is what I just used and it worked perfectly from online retailer

3M
Double Sided Tape Heavy Duty, Waterproof Mounting Foam Tape, 36.5ft Length, 0.4in Width, High Temperature Resistant Adhesive Tape for Car, LED Strip Light, Office Decor, Uses VHB 5952 Raw Material

VHB can be relatively thick. Go to 3M site to see specs of various versions. This stuff has killer strong adhesive.

Probably. It's what Porsche used on every 914. It needs to be stuck on but not bonded on forever.
