I need to replace 4 exhaust studs that backed out while removing the heat exchangers on a '73 1.7 . I assume the EA engine is original.
The studs that came out, look like they are M8 at the nut side and slightly bigger at the port side probably M9 ( (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) ), and they are 53mm long. PET describes an "AM 8 x 53" for the 1.7 qty.8 ... but then describes a "CM 9 A X M8 X 56" [longer and kind of implies it's M8 on one end and M9 on the other] for the 1.7 and 2.0, but then qty. "X" ( (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) ) Then to confuse things more - I was gonna buy the following set that says they work for both 1.7 / 2. 0 .... but the ends look to be the same size (un-like mine that backed out) ! Why does every little thing have to be so confusing (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) https://www.ebay.com/itm/275131509056 |

Well I dont know anything about type4sale,,But I do have to help my eye Doctor drill 3 broken exhaust studs out today ..So I found this... Good Ole DD. shoptalk forums
QUOTE by Dave_Darling ยป Mon Jul 01, 2002 4:04 pm The 8mm/9mm studs are a repair item for people who have broken studs already. There are 8mm/10mm ones available as well. You may have luck using a tap to "chase" the threads back into shape. I'm guessing they'll be weaker that way, but... You might even simply be able to run an M9 bolt in and get the threads back. If not, you can drill for 10mm studs, or you can locate yourself a TimeSert kit or some appropriate Helicoil kit. Some use the coils, some say only TimeSerts. I'd be inclined to use the TimeSert if I could; I like the idea of a full insert rather than just a coil. --DD |
