Hi,bought this parts car last weekend,it's a1976 2.0lt car. Can't get the front trunk to open. The release works as it should but won't pop the hood. Any ideas?Attached Image

You can start a drum beat right where the latch is, that sometimes works. Also, spraying WD into the crack can help. As a last resort you can sawzall under the hood through the latch itself.

Take the front bumper off. 2 bolts on each side up in the wheel well. Then there is a hole you can put a screwdriver thru to push the latch to open. It’s pretty easy to do.

Before going into the cutting solution, isn't there a way to open the hood by removing the front bumper? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

Take off the front bumper. 2 bolts are in each of the front fender wells. Then look for the rubber plug in the center of the body behind where the front bumper was mounted. Take out the plug and stick a flat screwdriver into the whole and fiddle around with the latch release until the hood magically pops open for you. Sounds like the hood cable has broken or become disconnected from the latch itself and isn't releasing the latch's mechanism.

This is a late car… there are no bumper bolts in the wheel wells. There’s two bolts on the underside that attach the bumper to the bumper shocks. But otherwise yes, remove the front bumper and find the access hole to manually pop the latch.

Have you tried using 2 people, one to pull the handle, the other to coerce the hood open, it could just be stuck to whats left of the rubber seal…

First travel someone press down on the cemetery of the hood above the lock while you pull the handle. Tie a loop of rope around the lock handle and put your wrist thru the loop to be able to pull harder.
If the fails remove the bumper and trip the lock eith a small screwdriver.
No need to cut anything

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) Bubs do not have the two bolts in the fender well. The bumper shocks mount in the trunk. You remove the bumper from underneath the bumper. Then you can access the hole to pop the trunk.

Thank you for all the helpful comments. I had planned on disassembling the entire car and using some parts on my other car. I'll update when the trunk lid is open.
