Building another engine for future sale. This one is a 3.2 short stroke. Pauter cranks, canyon head studs, JE 10.5 pistons in Mahle 98mm cylinders. 964 oil pump. Cam for EFI. Twin plug heads with asco valve springs and retainers.

More to come.

Love to see engines getting built like this. Works of art!

Short stroke 3.2, would it wind up being less than a 3.2?

It’s built on a 3.0 case with 98mm pistons and cylinders. Same cylinder as a 3.2 to 3.4 but the piston needs to be sized for a 3.0 rod. It’s a tried and true combo.

Cleaning up the cam towers. Removed all the studs to replace with new. It also makes it much easier to clean the sealing surfaces. Removed the aluminum plugs and oil spray bars to install new. This greatly reduces the chance of debris obstructing oil flow. These parts are 45 years old…. A couple times in the ultrasonic and then blow everything off with compressed air.

Ooooh, please lots of pics and details! Those JE’s look very similar in profile and piston cut to the Mahles that just went into my burnt 3.4.

What cylinders are those/where’d you source? I have some older Mahle motorsport 98mm single plug pistons i was thinking of doing a 3.2SS… but i need to source the cylinders or have the 3.0 cylinders bored and coated???

Cams are special. Streetable but very performance oriented. Induction will be Clewett ITB’s and Haltech efi. Cost is a core engine, parts and labor. The efi & itb’s add a significant cost over stock induction but really make it fun.

A note about EFI. There’s a cost for parts but you can expect to pretty much double the cost to actually get it running and tuned. We’ll have a custom harness made, engine installed in the car and dyno tuned.

I’ll post the engine to completion and then show it in the car if the buyer is ok with it.

Hard to tell from the pics but the pistons are undercut to save a bit of weight. Pauter rods are lighter and stronger than stock. It all adds up, or in this case, adds up to less weight.

I had a very similar motor in my track 911 way back when but with Weber 46’s and GE80 cams. It was a wonderful revvy engine that would light off the tires in first when it came up on its cams at 5000rpm, rev to 7500 and was very reliable. I never had it out of the car in the eight years I owned it. This will be a fun motor!

Slowed down a bit while we finish a stock-ish 2.4 for a customer and work on some other stuff.
Also building an IROC car.
