People from other car marques ask me both why Porsche for me, but also for so many others. Why Porsche? Because unlike many vintage car marques, Porsche is still racing and still winning. There is a reason they have won Le Mans more time than anyone else, they were built to race from the beginning, and they've never stopped! IMSA 2025 Champions, a trifecta. Porsche Penske Motorsport has taken all three 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship titles: Drivers’, Teams’, and Manufacturers’. Raceborn indeed!

We all have our reasons. Mine, is the post-war history. How the company rose from the ashes of WW2; the humble rebirth at the sawmill in Austria; the return to Stuttgart/Zuffenhausen. Love that stuff, knowing it's part of the DNA of my car.

The answer is pretty straightforward for me. They build real sports cars that are also reliable and practical enough to be used every day. My 911 hasn't been a weekend car. It's my daily driver.

They're in a defining class. State of the art for the $$$. They just need a more cost effective business model from what I hear.

For me, it's the car design. Over decades Porsche produced cars with few compromises and shortcuts, and with unique and, again, purposeful design. The cars also demanded something of the owner-driver (or at least used to).
An example: our 914s came with owner's manuals that described how to adjust the valves. How many other cars, then or especially now, have something like that? |

My uncle traded his 356 in on a 1970 914. I went for summer vacation in San Diego where my family lived. My uncle was waiting with his Saturn yellow 914. I asked him why he got rid of the 356, he didn’t say why but he showed me. I was 12 years old, 12 years later I had my own Saturn yellow 914. Thanks Freddy

Yes! This for sure. I started with a 59 VW Ragtop and have had a number of air cooled VWs over the last 42 years, including my current 62 ragtop Beetle. Air cooled Porsche just seemed a logical next step, hence the 914s. Absolutely no disrespect intended towards anyone else, but I couldn't give a rat's a** about speed, racing, power, status, outlaw builds, etc. If those things matter to you, I raise my glass and celebrate with you what you love. I just want to drive something fun that is also interesting. Looking out over the front hood of the 914 or the Beetle just brings a smile to my face. Not a whole lot to smile about in the USA right now, so I treasure that experience even more nowadays. |

ACVW's were a gateway drug for me as well. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I traded a 70 Bay Window Bus and a 64 VW Rag top for my first 914. Owned over 40 914's since then. I was really hooked when my old VW Porsche mechanic moved into his first real shop and had a wide body 914-6 IMSA style race car in one of his bays... |

In 1970, I was in the Army and got assigned to the Post Engineers in Stuttgart/Zuffenhausen. I sold my corvair and bought a 914/6.
