Has anyone had success repairing the hardboard that is behind the seat back pads? I think it's melamine, but it could be some other fiber board or hardboard like MDF.
I have a a couple screw holes that have pulled through, and one side of the interior light clip is pulled out. Most of what I'm finding online seems geared towards thicker furniture applications.  P.S. Perhaps of interest to the originality folks, what appears to be a hand written marking. I think it reads "165". |

Its just a formed wood fiber fiberboard. You can try a fiberglass patch to good material beyond the holes.

or a replacement panel i believe 914 rubber makes them in hard plastic, you can remove your material and foam and reuse them on the new backer for all panels.

If you're looking to keep the original and repair, already been said fiberglass works well with some matting. Soaks into the cardboard.
My 914 already had a 3 piece fiberglass backpad. Thought that was cool, no idea who would have made such a product or when? -Dan |

I painted mine with a few coats of clear poly after doing some fiberglass repairs. Also painted some clear epoxy on in spots.

I think 914Rubber has now started making them in a plastic material that allows you to staple the upholstery to the backboard, instead of glueing the upholstery pieces to it.

I did some poking around, but most fiberglass videos seem to be for boats or flat surfaces. Didn't scare up much for molded / contoured fiberboard, so I made a short video with help from my dad. There ended up being a few different repairs needed. Not very elegant, but I learned a lot and it should be functionally sound. Maybe it will help someone else down the road.
