the pumpkin's gas tank has black flakes in it when I looked with the borescope. Should I have it cleaned(boiled?) out or should I get a new one. If cleaned out do radiator shops do that?

We coated the inside of our 924S with the gas tank kit from POR-15. Follow all the steps and it should turn out good. Be sure to check for pinholes near where the gas tank rests on the carpet support, they usually corrode there from the outside.

I just used POR15 tank sealer and it worked great, takes four days to cure. POR15 has a cleaner to use first, then seal.

I am in the process of cleaning out my gas tank. I used electrolysis to pull out the rust. Ran the process for a week.

Just bought a new tank, that is the easy way ...... not the cheap way lol. I am thinking i will need to flush out new tank before install. What to use for that? Gas?, soapy water? Renee |

Probably a good idea to replace it, especially if the flakes you saw were corrosion.
It's very discouraging to go to all the work to refurbish a gas tank only to have it leak. If you have one leak, how long untill another pinhole pops up? And, I've read that some sealants end up failing. But, don't know, never used it other than a small puncture fixed with some special epoxy putty stuff on a car that wasn't worth making a proper fix. As for cleaning the new tank, either not necessary or you could slosh some gas around inside, especially if you see any dirt from manufacturing. Just looked at a brand new tank and can't see any dirt ir debris inside it. |

Removed them from my old tank and welded on the replacement tank. |
