Hi
This is the bottom of my air cleaner lid. Anyone else get this and where’s it from? Do I need to fix it?

Kevin

Thank's George

I'm sorry, it's not plain enough. That's oil and Bronze? from the valve guides?

Do you have some backfiring go on. I get a little of that on mine from gass and vapors. Little each year (4000) miles, just clean with brake cleaner.

It doesn’t take that long. This is two afternoon rides. It wipes off but that’s not why I’m worried

Have you adjusted the valves lately? I would check the valve adjustments first. If it continues valve guides may be an issue.

This looks like it’s been on fire… I agree with the backfires…

Could it be reversion back through the carburetors? (small pressure waves coming back up the intake tract from exhaust pressure during overlap and/or rapid valve closure). More likely to occur on motors with an aggressive cam shaft and driving conditions where the throttle plate is open at relatively low engine speed.

It may be related to some of that. I have no idea what kind of cam is in there but it doesn't lope... but if we take off imediately it syutters a little till igets warm when the revs are low. so;

Saturday l let it idle for a good 10 minutes before leaving. for a 35 mile ride. Some oil and bronze but not a lot.

Sunday we left immediately and it stuttered on the way out of the plan, 23 mile ride and the build up was cosiderably more than Saturday

But what does that mean?

Kevin.

Did you say it is 'oil and bronze', as in engine oil? is the color the same what is on the dipstick? Bronze particles or bronze colored flecks?
And you can wipe it off/clean and a couple runs on the engine and it's back?
Something very strange here...
