Get ready to pay a whole lot more. Probably going to even up with FedEx and UPS cost.

All that and the freakin' letter carriers still can not deliver the correct mail to the correct address. I get mail weekly for neighbors in my area. The carriers must be blind or illiterate. I have almost no respect for them these days. They dress like complete slobs and if they did not get out of a USPS vehicle, one would not know they were Postal employees.

My father-in-law retired as a Post Master in the Bay Area and lived with us for the last 4+ years of his life. He would just shake his head when he saw the way the Postal service has slid down the hill.

Yep, at one time it was a big deal to get on at USPS. Now anything goes and the quality of the work speaks for itself.

Traditionally they hired a huge percentage of people straight out of the military but I think that's gone by the wayside as other employment has drawn a lot of those people away. They also moved several years ago to lots of flex part time people, making it far less attractive to work there long term, no actual career opportunities.
The result, a far different workforce then the one we remember.

The best value I've found shipping items has been with PirateShip.com. You need to be able to print your own labels, though. I use copy paper and clear packing tape to attach them.

Mailed a package from San Diego to San Antonio yesterday. Haven't done so for a while and had sticker shock. Best part was when she told me, with a straight face, they could get it there tomorrow for $73.10. I selected Ground Advantage for a mere $16.00 but asked if they had just a "ground" because I didn't see any advantage. She didn't get it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
I won't get into barely being able to understand the person behind the counter.

Here's my suggestion: reduce delivery to MWF or TThSa in alternate neighborhoods, and cull the bottom half of delivery staff. And look for other cost cutting solutions.

I don't need daily delivery, especially when it often is late anyway.

Not a bad idea but it eliminates next day delivery. Last time I checked USPS was lowest on next day. I use Priority flat rate but never plain priority as UPS and FedEx always have better rates than USOS priority.
Ground advantage is the worst and slowest.
It is a combo of postal and UPS.
Use Pirateship.com if you want to save on shipping and it compares UPS and postal

USPS doesn't really offer next day delivery, they stopped this several years ago, they now describe their fastest service as:
Priority Mail Express® service provides 1–3 day delivery service by 6 PM with a money–back guarantee.

I often hear my 'latest' mail person coming because they're zoned out and having some drama filled intense conversation through an ear piece and consequently delivering my package 100 house numbers off !

After I had a really bad experience with the USPS when I purchased an collection of items worth $1100 stolen by a USPS employee out of a sorting facility my faith in them dropped significantly. All I got from that package was the return shipping address and my address that was clearly cut from the upper layer the cardboard box and discarded on the sorting room floor via an enveloped mailed to me from the USPS. I searched for weeks to see if the items came up for sale on different outlets to no avail. I believe they should have cameras inside their facilities to curb behavior like this and hold their employees accountable. Now everything I ship gets covered in tamper tape.

Amending my previous comment: just end the post office.

I "overnighted" something today at the post office, actually it will get there Friday. But the guy informed me that today the speedy service will now be 1-5 days guaranteed. They watered down the 1-3 days even more, guess they couldn't even keep that reduced pace. The price didn't go down though, it was $31, same as ever.

I ordered something from AA two weeks ago, and they shipped it out the next day via USPS Priority Mail. Was supposed to to arrive by 1 July. It arrived today. According to the tracking, it arrived at the main Washington D.C sorting facility on time but was then sent back to Atlanta. All shippers had issues.

FedEx lost my rebuilt transmission sent from Dr Evil. It was lost for over a month and when it finally arrived it was obvious the package had been put through the wringer. After opening the container we discovered the had broken the bell housing.

Recently, I shipped package via UPS just 100 miles away. Package was lost. They claimed the couldn’t deliver bc a unit # was missing but the address was a freestanding building without units. They said they returned to sender but it wasn’t my address. I have spend more than 15 hours on the phone with them over 10 calls trying to get my claim fulfilled.

All of them can F off as far as I’m concerned. They’re all volume businesses. They’re not customer centric.

I ship a lot, both domestic and international, Pirateship is the way to go. I NEVER choose USPS. in fact not only is UPS cheaper they are super reliable, I've lost packages with USPS, and they don't care.

Yes, you need to print the label, don't we all have a printer? if not a single print at Office Depot is cheap enough.

I no longer trust the tracking info from any carrier, especially the USPS.
