Fat Performance Type 4 Engine converted to upright configuation
One of the last engines built by Ron Fleming before he retired and sold Fat Performance to Rimco. 82 counterweighted crank 96 JE Forged Pistons 5.325 forged rods 2 liter 914 heads ported/polished/flowed Dynoed at 200hp/200tq with a mild torquey cam (.465 Lift/280 Duration) 44 IDF Carbs 44/38 SS Valves Windage Tray Porsche Fan Conversion $16500 Located in Richmond, VA Attached thumbnail(s) |

Will it fit in a 914 as configured? Looks very tall with those air cleaners.
Having been to FAT when Ron was around that price is reasonable. Their rebuilds were $10-15K with you suppling the core. They built motors to win and last. Good luck with sale. |

I think it will fit. It was going in my 57 Beetle but I ended up doing a turbo setup in it. For what it's worth, I think I had around $18k in this engine when Ron built it.

Pretty sure the engine will fit as is.
Things to note into a 914 are the different wiring of course since the alternator is in a different place and has a 911 style setup (just make a connection harness). Even better if it is internally regulated (late style alt). Cooling tin surround will need to fabricated to keep the air above the heads cool. The oil fill will probably not be a problem and the dip stick might be inside the fill tube idk. Maybe a bracket for the throttle cable to hook in. Very cool setup/design. I sold one last year that needed to be rebuilt. 200HP will make a 914 scream. GLWS! |
