While working on an unrelated issue, I lost the brake lights.
Fuse on #9 is good, how does the brake pedal switch activate the stop lights ?
Need to know where to start……

The switch is inside at the pedal cluster. It is normally open, with a lever that rides on the pushrod between the pedal and master. When you step on the pedal a spring closes the switch and current lights up the lights. As indicated, replacements are available and not too overengineered. As in kind of inexpensive.

They rarely fail.

Do you have power at fuse 9 ?

What wiring issue were you working on as it sound like it is related.

With ignition on, one of the wires at the switch should have power. I would first check for power at the brake light socket then the wire into the housing. I use a stick to depress and hold the pedal down if a helper is not available.

If all checks out there then move to the pedals.
