So I have this 914/6 that had the original engine and transmission replaced with a later model transmission and motor. The car was registered in San Antonio in 03/1983 and owned by Robert Shepka. I think around that time is when the swap happened. The VIN is 9141430018. It ended up in Central Florida after that.

Any ideas on tracking the original motor and transmission down? They probably ended up in a 914/4.

Porsche offered a Certificate of Authenticity in the past- did your car come with one by chance? That should have the motor number and sometimes the transaxle number too. In the past several years, Porsche stopped offering the COA, and now offers something less helpful for a lot more money. If you give them your engine number, along with your chassis number, they will tell you if it is correct or not.

My '71 914-6 also had its original engine replaced back when the car was about 10 years old. For me it really did not matter as I knew I would not put the stock engine back even if I had it. I went with an '88 3.2 with Motronic injection and absolutely love it.

Good luck in your search. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

My 914-6 GT Tribute was built back in the 90's using factory 6 parts from wrecked cars. It has an original -6 engine in it. I've posted that engine number as available if the original chassis is out there. You'll need to figure out what your original engine number was. I would contact David Pateman if you don't have any documentation. He can get factory production information similar to a kardex. He is davep on this board.

If not, I believe David offers a research information service.
